The only bank in America with a joint ownership arrangement between a bank and a supermarket, First Market Bank opened its doors in late 1997 and now has 37 branches. 1998 brought us our first freestanding location, the introduction of our Dealer Finance, Commercial and Private Banking Divisions, four new in-store locations and a venture into the Williamsburg Market. In 2000, Richmond Magazine named First Market Bank The Best Banking Service in the city, and in 2001, as we entered the Fredericksburg market and opened our Trust and Real Estate Lending divisions, we were honored to receive the Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award for Market Place Integrity. First Market Bank celebrated our Billion Dollar milestone in the fall of 2002, just less than six years after our inception, in 2005 we accomplished our goal of bringing the ownership and operations of First Market Bank to Richmond, and in 2007 we expanded into the Roanoke market.
