About Us
Our History
Danville Regional Medical Federal Credit Union was chartered in January 1970 to serve the employees of Danville Regional Medical Center and their family members. Since then our field of membership was amended to allow outside medical facilities to join. Our membership has steadily grown over the years we currently have over 1,800 members.
The Credit Union Difference
There are some important differences between credit unions and other financial institutions:
CREDIT UNIONS ARE MEMBER-OWNED
Credit unions have member-owners, not customers. Each person who deposits money in a credit union becomes a member. The deposit is considered his share of the ownership. That means credit unions are member-owned and each member is also a owner of the credit union.
CREDIT UNIONS ARE NON-PROFIT
This does not mean that they do not make a profit. After expenses are paid and reserves are set aside, surplus earnings are returned to members in the form of higher dividends, lower loan rates and free or low-cost services
CREDIT UNIONS ARE DEMOCRATICALLY CONTROLLED
Credit unions are lead by a board of directors who volunteer. They are elected from and by the membership. Each member has one vote in electing the board members and certain committee members.
