Northern Piedmont Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1954, under the name Vint Hill Federal Credit Union. The credit union originally served the military and civilian personnel working at the Vint Hill Farms Station based in Fauquier County, Virginia.

In early 1994, the downsizing of the U.S. Government closed Vint Hill Farms Station. The credit union was renamed Northern Piedmont Federal Credit Union and moved the Main office to Culpeper, Virginia in October of 1995. NPFCU currently serves more than 200 Selected Employer Groups in five (5) counties.
